About us

Hevruta (from the Hebrew word for friend, and the tradition of learning in pairs) was born from a simple feeling: it has never been easier to be connected to the whole world, and never harder to find a real friend around the corner.

What we are

Hevruta is a system that connects people by location and shared interests. It is not a romantic dating app, and it is not a social network competing for your attention. It is a place to find people who love what you love - and live nearby.

How it is different

No endless feed, no video, no algorithm deciding what you see. Matching is transparent: shared interests, similar level and a distance you choose. You get a notification when someone fitting joins, and you choose whether to reach out.

Our principles

Privacy by default - sensitive details such as age stay hidden until you decide otherwise.
No file uploads - avatars instead of photos, to keep things simple and safe.
Full control over notifications - you decide what, and within which distance.
Real deletion - whoever deletes an account leaves the system completely.

Where we are going

Right now Hevruta is a web app in four languages: Hebrew, English, Russian and Arabic. Next we will look at a mobile app, real-time chat and more interests based on community requests.
